Toyotomi Hideyoshi was supposed to have died at Osaka Castle (the second bailey).
Toyotomi Hideyoshi should have died at Osaka Castle (the Ninomaru). Now it has shifted to Fushimi Castle. In my memory, the various feudal lords were gathered at Osaka Castle. The reason Tokugawa Ieyasu was able to stay put at Osaka Castle after Hideyoshi’s death was because he had been summoned there by Hideyoshi, and yet that kind of description has disappeared. As for Fushimi Castle, as I recall the history, it was built and then immediately, right after Hideyoshi moved in, it collapsed in a major earthquake and many of Hideyoshi’s government officials died, and when the public started to rumor that it was due to the vengeful spirit of Hidetsugu, it was unceremoniously abandoned and not rebuilt—but that has changed to where the damage was small, the castle was rebuilt, and it became the castle where Hideyoshi died. There’s no change to the point that the Fushimi Castle later built by the Tokugawa shogunate is a different castle with the same name. Also, quite a few people feel something is off about Koraibashi being the Osaka-side starting point of the Tokaido 57 stations (the Tokaido being the old highway linking Edo and Kyoto; the “57” here is itself part of the oddness).
