There are not a few people who remember that, in the time slot of “Sekai Fushigi Hakken!” (a long-running TBS quiz/travel show), there used to be a deep occult program hosted by Miyake Yuji that aired. In fact, the author is one of them. The estimated period is around 2003 to 2007. Also, there are many people who remember having seen a bad-taste style live broadcast program where a Buddhist monk attempted to commit suicide and become a sokushinbutsu (a self-mummified monk). Generally, this is said to be something from about 40 years ago, from television in the late Showa 50s era (the 1980s). But even I, born in the 1998s, have a dim memory of seeing it. Incidentally, there are 17 sokushinbutsu (bodies) that actually exist nationwide, but one occasionally sees the assertion that there are 18.
