Back when I didn’t know much about Kobayashi Yoshinori, who serializes “Gomanism Sengen” in Fusosha’s Weekly SPA!, I had long thought, all along, that Kobayashi Yoshinori had originally held right-leaning ideas but converted and became a leftist who acknowledged forced mobilization of comfort women and the Nanjing Massacre. Also, it kept eliciting a mysteriously strong sense of inattention and a learning-disability feeling (like “I don’t really get it and I don’t want to get it”), continuously. Or, in a similar story, there used to be a meme on the internet a little while back that the author of “Barefoot Gen” (Keiji Nakazawa) was a postwar-born storyteller, and I had long thought he was a manga artist of fraudulent fabrication who was born after the war—or was an infant at the end of the war—and therefore had not experienced the war, but in reality, or in the world as it is now, Nakazawa is said to have drawn “Barefoot Gen” based on his own experiences. ○ Long ago, there should unquestionably have been an incident in the UK where riots were so bad that, by cabinet decision, a machine gun was fired just once and several rioters died, but it has become as if it never happened. Also, as for the origin of “If it’s only one shot, it might have been an accidental discharge,” at first I thought it was that incident, and there was a period when I thought the origin was the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, and a period when I thought the origin was a Diet debate, but now it is said to be a phrase written in an anti-emergency-legislation article titled “I Don’t Understand This Part of Emergency Legislation. What Is a ‘Use of Armed Force’ Itself?” that ran on page two of the Tokyo edition morning paper of Asahi Shimbun on April 20, 2003. Also, whether the Marco Polo Bridge Incident was a plot has become ambiguous.
