I have this memory that Cunning Takeyama (a Japanese comedian) had a father who was like this mafia-ish, hush-hush “antisocial forces” type (yakuza-linked groups in Japan) who hid that fact, with his occupation unknown and a rigorously enforced separation between public and private, and that Takeyama joked that, in the end, he never did find out what job his father had. (This is not the theory that I’m mixing him up with Ota Hikari’s father (Ota Hikari is a Japanese comedian). Takeyama was the one who said it.)
