At the time of the steam explosions in the reactor buildings at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, which lost control due to the earthquake and tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the author’s father, although he is not particularly knowledgeable about nuclear power, did not major in nuclear power or engineering at university, and is not even a science type, while watching the live TV coverage said things like, “From here on for 200 years (this is a hazy memory, so maybe it was 100 years, or conversely maybe 1,000 years), it might become impossible for people to live in eastern Japan!” and, moving like one of those mysterious random passersby during America’s 911 2001 terrorist attacks who, while being coincidentally captured by a TV camera, explained in oddly detailed fashion the mechanism of the WTC collapse, scolded easygoing me, but when I checked with my father, sure enough, as expected, the answer came back that that couldn’t be, that’s strange. Alternatively, I also have a memory that he said about Naoto Kan that during the student movement, he himself would agitate and incite, but he would not take the very front of the front line, so he was always further back in the second line, and thus the police called him “the man in the third row,” he’s a cowardly man, but my father is not particularly the type with strong political or ideological coloration, and now that I think about it, I wonder if that’s really true.
