Aircraft lift is obviously stronger than it was back in the 2000s when the author was an elementary school kid. I’m sure I saw a TV program that tested and concluded Thunderbird 2 was impossible to realize, and yet in the current world line, the old guy at the RC shop is laughing, “If you add thrust, you can even make something like Thunderbird 2, whose airframe shape generates almost no lift, fly, wahaha.” Hang gliders can also routinely fly more than 200 km.
