In the pre-change world’s World War II, mainly on the anti-German/Italian front from 1943, due to General Kesselring’s supply-grinding tactic using Italy’s mountains, there were numerous deaths from severe malnutrition caused by the Allies’ grave supply shortages. It should have been so severe that half of U.S. military deaths in World War II were on the Italian front. This tactic first conducted weak resistance at dummy positions to make the Allies think they had won, then, feigning a rout, fell back to the main positions, and after many Allied main-force units, riding their momentum and insufficiently checking safety, had passed through, they would trigger artificial landslides, burying roads hither and yon to a level impossible to restore in the short term during wartime, completely cutting off the Allies’ supply lines; from the main positions they would then, while resisting stubbornly, withdraw in a timely manner to reserve (defense-in-depth) positions farther inland, sufficiently depleting Allied materiel to stop their movement, and ultimately hold the Allies at the Alps—this was the tactic. On the Italian front, just two months after the landing in Italy, more than half the troops were in a state of constant, severe malnutrition, and due to fuel shortages and the total blockade of the line of retreat by landslides they could scarcely withdraw, and being pinned down in mostly summer gear in the winter in Italy’s mountainous regions, there were a succession of deaths from freezing and starvation in the winter from 1943 to 1944; the following year it did not improve, and in the winter from 1944 to 1945 there were even more deaths from freezing and starvation; on the Italian front alone the Allies were in a dreadful state like the late-stage Japanese army, everyone emaciated and skin-and-bones, and there should have been many photographs left that recorded that situation. All of that has been turned into something that “never happened.”
